I would like to share my knowledge that I have learned in a Japanese scroll company for 6 years as much as possible.
“Backing (Urauchi)” is a necessary process for calligraphy works to remove wrinkles and swells in the work. It also reinforces the work and shows respect for the work. In Japan, we never display artwork (such as calligraphy, sumi painting, etc ) without backing.
This is a workshop for Backing, not making scrolls, but it is one of the necessary processes for scrolls.
I will provide glue, backing paper, brushes, etc, so only you can bring 2 of your works which need to be backed. (Do not worry, I will help you)
